If you’re craving a meal that combines bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and the perfect balance of spice and zest, blackened mahi tacos are the answer. Whether you’re hosting a gathering, treating yourself, or simply looking for a culinary adventure, these tacos will transport your taste buds to a seaside fiesta. Let’s dive into how you can create this delectable dish right in your kitchen.

Why Mahi Tacos?

Mahi-mahi, a firm and flaky white fish, is the star of this dish. Its mild flavor pairs beautifully with the smoky, spicy seasoning used in blackening. When tucked into a warm tortilla and topped with vibrant garnishes, it creates a taco experience like no other. Plus, mahi is packed with protein and omega-3s, making it a healthy option for seafood lovers.

Ingredients You’ll Need

For the blackened mahi:

  • 2 4oz mahi mahi fillets
  • 1/2 tbsp olive oil
  • blackening seasoning: smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, oregano, salt and pepper

For the Mango Pico:

  • 2 mangos diced
  • 1/2 red onion diced
  • 2 roma tomatoes diced
  • fresh cilantro
  • lime juice
  • pinch of salt

For the Cabbage Slaw:

  • 2 cups of cabbage
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • Pinch of salt

For serving

  • 8 small corn or oat flour tortillas
  • Guacamole
  • Sour Cream
  • Brown Rice
  • Lime

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Blackening Seasoning: Combine the spices in a small bowl. Stir until combined.
  2. Prep the Mahi: Cut your mahi fillets longitudinally or hotdog style. Toss in ~1/2 tbsp of olive oil (I just usually drizzle it on and add extra if needed). Sprinkle the blackening season over the fillets. Message the fillets until everything is evenly coated in the seasoning. Set aside to let the fillets marinate.
  3. Make the Mango Pico: In a small bowl, combine your diced mango, onion, roma tomatoes. Add some fresh cilantro and lime juice. Sprinkle some salt. Mix until everything is combined.
  4. Make the Cabbage Slaw: In another small bowl, mix your cabbage, lime, and salt. Mix until everything is melded together.
  5. Cook your Mahi-Mahi: Preheat your air fryer to 375F. Place Mahi fillets on tin foil or air fryer liner. Cook for 4-5 minutes flipping them halfway through. (You can also cook these on the stove top! Heat your pan to medium hear, drizzle some oil, and then add your fillets. Cook each side evenly)
  6. Warm the Tortillas: While the fish rests, warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or directly over a gas flame for a slight char.
  7. Assemble the Tacos: Layer each tortilla with flaked mahi, shredded cabbage, mango pico and top off with my delicious homemade guacamole recipe! Serve with lime wedges and/or brown rice on the side.

Pro Tips

  • Monitor your fish: Since the fish is sliced into smaller pieces, it will cook faster. Check to make sure it is not burning.
  • Switch It Up: Try a corn and bean melody or pickled onions as toppings for a twist.
  • Grill It: If you prefer grilling, mahi-mahi holds up beautifully on a grill. Just brush the fillets with oil and seasonings before cooking.

Pairing Suggestions
